Muertos Fest 2020 | A Virtual Festival

Now in our third year supporting the annual Dia de los Muertos Celebration at Hemisfair, Sweet Talk Social was tasked to support a new kind of festival in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the cultural significance of Dia de Muertos, it was imperative the festival continue without putting the community at risk. We worked with the Muertos Fest team to create a virtual festival that could help community members celebrate their loved ones who had passed, especially as a result of COVID-19.

The top priority was educating target audiences on what a virtual festival would look like and how they could participate. By keeping the core elements of the festival (community altar, workshops, and performances), the Muertos Fest team was able to produce an hour-long television special on the significance of this cultural event and why we celebrate it. In prior years, patrons could experience food, artists, and more but as a result of the pandemic, we were able to educate the masses on the importance of this holiday.

This was the first year we began to target audiences outside of Texas. As a result, we were able to achieve the following:

Sweet Talk Social was brought on to the Muertos Fest team in 2017 to create a stronger social media presence and promote this beloved cultural event.

In its 8th year, the annual Dia de Los Muertos celebration at La Villita expanded to Hemisfair in 2019.

Sweet Talk Social was tasked with creative messaging to ensure patrons knew of the location change, featured vendors, and featured artists.

With just two months of social media marketing, we were able to reach over half a million through Instagram and Facebook, capture over 30,000 RSVPs on Facebook alone. Over the course of the two-day event, we saw over 100,000 in attendance.
